An arachnoid web emerges
Entanglements of intersecting knowledges and experiences are spun
All that exists already
Becoming visible
Coincidental patterns emerge from movement and material
A string spans and warps
Bodies and artifacts weft into one
All lifeforms are inherently entangled with innate desire to create structures, patterns & to follow seasons. From spiders and their webs, to birds and their worldwide migration paths, patterns are seemingly inherent in all life-forms. That’s until you consider the human, which unlike its predecessors, lacks these innate patterns and structures. Despite our dissonance in this universal entanglement of patterns, it can be argued that art is innate, perhaps only to the human. Which begs the question why and how do we make art? Is it a phenomenon unique to our capacity for consciousness? Or is it merely as instinctual as the spider spinning its web without ever being shown how.
Warp & Weft is a multidisciplinary performance artwork that merges sculpture and dance. Two performers build and inhabit a web of various materials, creating a dialogue between the bodies and the habitat. Performed at Studio Arthouse Gallery Australia, Warp & Weft moves throughout the gallery among the bodies of the audience, providing an immersive experience.
